Salt Lake City, Working & Trekking, Gold Mountain, and On to Moab
We are on the road to Moab, Utah - after two days in Salt Lake City. My iPhone captured some of beautiful mountains as we begin our trek to Arches National Park:
Gold Mountain: This was our second visit to Salt Lake in the past 6 months. We helped produce a musical called Gold Mountain, which focused on the experiences of the Chinese workers who came to Utah to build the cross country railroad. Written by Jason Ma, it had its world premiere in Salt Lake City this Fall. As we travel along the highway next to the railroad tracks - we recalled the music and story of Gold Mountain:
Two days in Salt Lake City, Utah - one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Technology and Venture companies setting up headquarters in the region and a sense of optimism about business.
Working & Trekking: Folks have asked if it was difficult to combine a road trip around the United States with work and professional focus. It has been easy and really exciting. In Salt Lake City, I spent the morning with my colleague Dana Koch, as we did 4 hours of design and brainstorming on a new “Learning OnBoarding and Readiness Project”. This is an Open Source - Open Access, free set of resources to prepare someone for a new Learning and Development position.
We brainstormed content and design options using “stickies” on the wall and then Dana got a photo of me adding the content to a Mind Map. Then, we video taped a message to the 90+ volunteers helping to build the free project. Dana caught me working diligently from their kitchen table.
Yes, in these era of working from home - it has been fun to work from the “road”. I am giving a keynote address to my colleagues from Mt. Sinai Hospital by Zoom from the road on Friday and meeting with the CLO of EY on the way to Denver on Thursday night.
So, on to Moab and the wonder of Arches National Park.
